Nasturtium is an interesting and under-rated herb that is often grown as an annual flower. Its flowers, leaves, and seeds are all edible and add a peppery taste to salads. You can also grind up the flowers and blend them with course salt to make a unique and colorful seasoning.

The National Institute of Health says that due to its rich phytochemical content and unique elemental composition, the garden nasturtium may be used in the treatment of many diseases for example illnesses of the respiratory and digestive systems.

We love it because of it’s unique shape! Nasturtium leaves are round, flat discs that look like lily pads and they grow on the end of long, skinny stems. Nasturtium also does well in year round warm climates and can thrive in partial shade, but they will bloom more if they do receive some full sun.

They also grow fast and aren’t picky about soil nutrients! Poor soil will actually promote more blooms. When you are growing from seed, they an sprout in as little as three days! And they have been known to bloom in 35 days! Nasturtium grow in an array of colors. The flowers also attract butterflies and bees to your garden. Hummingbirds love them as well.
