Cosmos Flowers have become one of our favorite flowers to grow this year simply because of the germination rate and the growth time. After planting seeds, we saw sprouts just 3 days later. The germination rate of the seeds was probably close to 100%!

We planted the seeds in 3″ pots and had several sprouts in each pot. Within two weeks, the seedlings were already 3 to 4 inches tall. Flowers will also bloom within 45 days and can bloom all summer long.

Cosmos have a unique fern-like leaf and long, slender stems. They remind us almost of Marigolds. The tiny flowers resemble daisies and are available in a variety of colors. When grown in clumps, they can reach heights of several feet. They are also tolerant of dry soil and don’t require a lot of nutrients to thrive.

To prolong blooming, you should remove the dead blooms. However, if you leave them in the fall, the plants will self-seed and you may seem them sprout again the following spring. Due to the variety of colors and their long stems, they make a great cut flower for vases or bouquets!
